Riverside Intervention Specialist Erin Krisher, Literacy Specialist Margo Shipp, and Elementary Principal Bryce Hodge were invited to Columbus to speak to the Whole Child Advisory stakeholders group today. They shared their work to address student health and wellness, and approaches to academic supports for literacy at Riverside. These efforts have recently been highlighted by the Governor's office and Ohio Department of Education. Go Pirates!

Our seniors were nominated by Julie Wick to receive Battle Pups in honor of Makayla Brandyberry’s 3-year fight against osteosarcoma. The Battle Pup collar reads “armed with strength” and are for anyone and everyone who could use love, hope, and encouragement. Battle Pups are donated by the non-profit organization “Way to Battle”. The students were excited to receive their Battle Pups and are very thankful for the thoughtfulness and generosity of the amazing organization that donated them. Seniors can keep their pup as a memento or can gift theirs to another going through a difficult time.

Staff Spotlight day. Today we highlight Mrs. Heitkamp. She helps coordinate all our Special Education Staff and keeps us in state compliance. She handles a tough job with patience and grace. She always has a smile for everyone and loves all of our students. We are truly blessed to have Mrs. Heitkamp on staff working hard for our staff and students. Thank you, Mrs. Heitkamp. 1. What is your job title and description of what you do? This is my 2nd year serving as the district's Special Education Coordinator. My previous 7 years with the district I served as the Speech-Language Pathologist. As the Special Education Coordinator, I oversee the specially designed services for students who have Individualized Education Plans. This includes working closely with the Intervention Specialists and Related Service providers to ensure equity of services, reviewing documents, and maintaining paperwork and compliance. 2. How long with Riverside? I have been working in the district for 9 years. 3. Family? I have been married to my husband, Dustin, for 8 years and we have three children ages 5, 3, and 8 months. 4. Hobbies? I enjoy spending time with family and friends. As a family, we enjoy watching and playing sports, boating, and being outside. 5. Favorites (food, holiday, etc)? I enjoy Italian and Mexican foods the most. My favorite holiday is Christmas. I enjoy giving gifts to others and love watching the excitement of my children during the Christmas season. 6. Best Co-workers why? I enjoy working with all staff at Riverside but especially love the special education team. What is it about Riverside that makes you want to stay a Pirate? I have loved Riverside since the moment I began working here. All staff members have been very welcoming, the administrative team is supportive and always there to help when needed, and the special education staff is open to new ideas and changes. Everyone makes coming to work every day a delight.

Today we held our monthly Senior Citizen luncheon. Our kitchen staff served chicken parmesan, Ms. Longbrake made desserts for our guests to enjoy, Mrs. Harshbarger picked out Christmas gifts from The Rusty Crow, and finally Mrs. Noah had 6th graders perform Christmas carols as entertainment! It was a great time of laughter, fun, and serving our community! We want to wish our Senior Citizens a Merry Christmas!
