2021-2022 School Year Riverside Art Show It was a very successful year for Art this year. A lot of amazing pictures and 3D pieces were made. There were so many students who really stood out and did some exceptional work this year. Malaina Jenkins was the Riverside Art Student of the Year for 2021-2022 school year. A student’s performance the entire time in high school art is considered when determining this award. Teaching Malaina and watching her develop as artist over the 4 years of high school art and as far back as junior high has been one my most enjoyable experiences as a teacher. Malaina is one the meticulous and driven art students I have ever had. She puts so much effort into researching and thinking through her projects. She takes time reflect on everything happening in the picture. It is very difficult for a young artist to be in total control over the picture they are creating. Malaina is one of the few that has ever reached that level. Her Artistic skill, especially as drawer is very refined and absolutely beautiful to watch her do and then to be amazed at when she finishes a picture. Jenna Woods is going to going to Bluffton University to play volleyball and major in Graphic Design. Jenna received a scholarship for her portfolio of her work she has done in art. Watching her skill and confidence as artist grow has been a really amazing thing to watch. Rozlynn Estep’s pictures feel almost as if they have a living soul, especially her pictures she has drawn of animals. Rozlynn is one of the most enjoyable students I have ever gotten to work with I love how in every picture she does you can see this very kind, empathetic and sweet soul that Rozlynn is. Madelyn Sanford art is so realistically drawn and the deep value tones to her drawings make the elements in her pictures feel so life like. One of my favorite pieces from this year was Grace Brownlee’s “Sunflowers” and that the whole landscape is painted so beautifully. The “Sunflower” painting is the quint essential view that you want to wake up too in the morning. There were so many wonderful performances by so many art students and pictures made that are wonderful to see. Abby Steinke’s Kindergarten through sixth graders made some really beautiful pictures that showcased their young talent and how much fun it is to have child’s imagination. Everything from drawings to digital pieces of sports heroes where created. Some really cute and creative bouquets with paper were made. So many picture were bright and colorful but also well done. Preschool students showed their 3D habitats which were also neat to see. Really nice job by the elementary art students.
